Cloverpaw was happy that she did something right for once. She was also happy that her mentor was happy. They probably would have leaped for joy if it wasn't for Darkstar. Not that the apprentice had anything against her leader. She just didn't want to embarrass herself again.
The tortoise shell she-cat was still purring when Darkstar asked them to hunt some more. "As you wish Darkstar." Since she had been successful her first time, this next time was easy. All she had to do was remember what Roseguppy told her. She unsheathed her paws again and waited until she saw a fish close to the edge. Then she darted in with her paw and caught it. She flung it toward the rocks where it laid, dead.
She was just as amazed as the first time around.

"Good, good! Your getting the hang of it, Cloverpaw."
Her pelt rippled as she shot a paw foreward and hooked another fish, killing it the second it hit the rocks the other fish had met their ends. So far they had four. Maybe they might be able to have a fish for everyone tonight? A smile came to her mouth as she thought about it, she could dream, couldn't she?
"Maybe we'll all be able to go to bed with full stomachs, Darkstar."
Remarked the orange tabby, as she stared at the water, waiting for another fish to come along and add to their growing pile. [/blockquote]

Darkstar rolled her eyes. "Ok, I get it." Counting pebbles had never looked more inviting. In an effort to quell the monstrous boredom that loomed, she turned to some foreign weapon, something she had rarely used before- conversation.
"What have you taught her so far, er, whatever your name is," Darkstar said, adressing the mentor.

All in all, she was surprised her leader didn't even know her name. She just shrugged it off and responded.
"Roseguppy. My name's Roseguppy."
She responded, continuing on.
"She's been taught on how to best to hunt rabbits, mice, and all the other prey, as well as a lot of basic fightning moves. We actually were going to get into more complicated fighting after Cloverpaw finally caught a fish." [/blockquote]

Cloverpaw was also surprised that Darkstar didn't know her mentor's name. The young she-cat convinced herself that her leader was just tired. That was all it could be. She caught another fish. It was the last one that was still stupid enough to stay near the edge. If they wanted to catch any more, they would have to start swimming. She padded away from the edge and between the two she-cats. She really hoped neither of them would say anything else to upset the other.
"I think that's all of them. The hunting patrol probably brought back more. Should we work on fighting now? Would you care to watch Darkstar?" She looked nervously from one to the other. "Or we could take these fish back to camp?" she suggested. With their mouths full, they wouldn't be able to talk much.

One cat talks, then another. From one headache to the next. "Talk more slowly, kit, chatter gives me migraines." Darkstar yawned and swiveled her head- what was that herb that relieved pains? Did it grow near here? "Leave the fish, but put them in the shade, I don't want them to spoil. And I doubt that that is all the fish here, but please, show me your fighting moves, it's probably a lot more entertaining than this," said Darkstar. She glanced at Roseguppy. "Though not knowing what Rosepuppy here has taught you, it could be just as dull. Interesting name, by the way."

Nodding, the orange white she-cat turned and padded back over to the fish, and picking up three by their tails. Making her way over to the base of the tree she had first rested under, stashing them in the cover of the trees roots that prejected out. She mumbled a thanks to her leader before turning to her apprentice.
"Let's show Darkstar what you've learned."
She nodded, heading off away from the shore and pebbles for a more favorable shaded and grassy battle ground. [/blockquote]

Cloverpaw looked from one she-cat to another. She felt very uncomfortable in this conversation right now. Especially since her own leader pretty much called her a kit. She was glad that she was saved from talking because she had to bring the last two fish into the shade. She did so without a word, afraid of a confrontation.
She padded back over to her leader, ears pricked for any sound of a fight. The she-cat felt bad for Roseguppy. Her mentor could not say anything bad, even if she wanted to, because Darkstar had said it. She knew that if it were any other cat, Roseguppy would have already lunged for their throat. "What move should we try first Roseguppy?" she asked, following her.

Darkstar regarded Cloverpaw out of slitted eyes. Well, now the kit was all sniffly. If she was a pinch less jaded, she may have cared. But she didn't care now. Nope.
Sigh. "Kit, I'm just talking. If your going to be a warrior, you need to grow thicker skin." That was about as close to a apology as she could muster. "RoseGUPPY, please continue."

Dipping her head in nod, Roseguppy turned. Sometimes, Darkstar was a alittle hard to be next to. Flicking her tail, she beckonded Cloverpaw over. Looking down between her paws, she shealthed and unshealthed her claws, plying at the green blades for a second. Placing her paws firmly on the grass below her, she lifted her head and spoke to her apprentice.
"Why don't you try to knock me off balance?" [/blockquote]

Cloverpaw nodded at her mentor and then at her leader. Darkstar was right. She had to learn not to take comments like that so seriously. Darkstar wasn't the nicest cat or the easiest to please but she knew a lot of things. She wouldn't alienate her Clan-mates. The tortoise shell cat got ready for the assault on Roseguppy.
She analyzed the situation, trying to figure out what move to best use. She had to move quick though. If she dawdled, Darkstar might have something to say about that. She settled for a charge. She ran as fast as she could towards Roseguppy's flank, intending to smash into her with her head. Then at the last second, she changed direction and headed for her mentor's flank instead.

Typical. The apprentice always tried to change direction when attacking their mentor. Admittingly, it was useful against other warriors, that weren't part of the clan, but this was usually used as a first way to knock someone over. Besides, she could see the apprentice side-step ready to change direction, and Roseguppy saw it coming.
Jumping swiftly to the side, the apprentice brushed passed her. She decided not to throw an attack at her, and spoke instead.
"Shouldn't give out hints to the attacker what your next move is, especially if your going to move around their chest to attack them from the side. That will give them a free shot at you." [/blockquote]
