The sun beat down on her back as she stepped over the warm rocks. She was making her way over to the lake for a day of fishing with her apprentice, Cloverpaw. The water washed over the pebbles that bordered the lake, and cool her feet. Closing her eyes, she let the scent of the lake fill her senses.
Ruffling her orange and white fur, she waited patiently in the shade of a tree for her apprentice to arrive. She opened her jaws to allow air in through a yawn, her brown eyes blinking, scanning around her.
She was glad for her short fur on a warm day like this, but then again they were fishing in the lake. They were bound to get wet. [kinda rushed, sorry.] [/blockquote]

OOC//: Yayness!
IC//: Darkstar padded through the brush, with about a thousand burrs clinging to her fur and her bored expression clinging to her face. The burrs were the fault of an unfortunate stumble, but the expression had been hanging around for weeks. It was a particularly slow time for Lakeclan, and Darkstar had grown bored of pacing in her den and patrols. She was ready for a change of pace- no pun intended. And since she didn't have any apprentice of her own, why not see if her warriors were living up to the task? First stop: Cloverpaw and- oh, who was her mentor again? Darkstar shook her head irratably and walked to meet the pair.

A tortoise shell she-cat padded closely behind her mentor. The day was warm and the cat's ears twitched forward, listening to the sounds of the water. She was determined to learn how to fish today. Of course, this wasn't the first time she had tried. Last time she had fallen into the lake and scared away most of the fish. She vowed not to make the same mistake today.
She looked up and realized she was falling behind. Cloverpaw raced to catch up with her orange and white mentor. "Sorry to keep you waiting Roseguppy." She opened her mouth to scent the air and was surprised to scent her leader, Darkstar. She turned in the older cat's direction.

Blinking her eyes against the sun on the water, she turned her head towards the bushes and saw her apprentice appear, and just seconds later, her leader. Dipping her head down in a respectful gesture towards the leader, not noticing her pelt covered in burrs. She probably had a roguh trip into the territory. Times were slow for LakeClan, that was for sure. Turning back to her apprentice, she nodded and spoke.
"It's alright, just don't keep me waiting for long."
Her voice carried like a bird sailing effortlessly on a summer breeze. She let a smile come to her mouth, as she then turned her attention back to her waiting leader, Darkstar.
"And what is the pleasure of having you grace our presence, Darkstar?"
She asked, clearly interested in why she was here. Maybe she had come to evaulate Cloverpaw? She held her smile. Cloverpaw was doing absolutely fine, and progressing like any apprentice should after two moons of training. A bit proud of her, if she said so herself. [/blockquote]

Darkstar made the minimal greeting to the pair, the plopped down and began pulling burrs out of her pelt, spitting them on the ground. Probably disgusting. Oh well.
"I am very, very, very bored," Darkstar said in between burrs. "And I figure watching you to train is more interesting and productive than trying to count all the pebbles in my den." One burr remained thoroughly stuck in her pelt, and Darkstar half-visibly mouth twisted down into a scowl. "Oh," she said, tugging harder, "At are oo doing oday?"

Cloverpaw saw the burrs in her leader's fur and immediately started wondering about where she had gotten them. Had she fallen like Cloverpaw did so often? No. Darkstar was sure to be more careful than that. Was she sneaking around? Doing something she shouldn't? But Darkstar wouldn't do anything like that either. This left Cloverpaw confused.
But she was the first one to jump up when her leader asked a question. "Roseguppy is going to teach me how to fish! ...Again." She winced as she again remembered her first attempt. She hoped she wouldn't make such a mistake in front of their leader for her sake, and Roseguppy's.

"I'm doing brilliatn today, thank you for asking, Darkstar. How about yourself?"
She asked, smiling still. Barely glancing at the burss, she turned back to her apprentice. What had happened was really none of her business, but she wished Cloverpaw wouldn't stare at the burrs so much.
"Counting pebbles is never fun."
She said, remarking about how she had gravely injured herself trying to keep a fox away from getting into camp. She was glad it wasn't fully grown, or it would have ripped her to shreds before she had sent it running. She was proud of herself that day, but the clan had fused over her injuries, and she was glad she let them heal her, or she probably wouldn't be alive now.
Nodding towards the lake, she spoke to her apprentice once more.
"Cloverpaw, why don't you show Darkstar what you know already?" [/blockquote]

Darkstar looked at Cloverpaw, amused. "Teaching you to fishing again?" she asked sardonically. "What, pray tell, made it so difficult to learn the first time?" She gave up on the burr, it was practically buried in her flesh by now. Last time she ever explored the territory for new hiding places.

Cloverpaw looked at her front paws, ashamed to answer her leader's question. She couldn't not answer so instead, she didn't look at Darkstar's face. "I fell into the lake and scared off all the fish." she really hoped her leader didn't laugh. She wouldn't be able to handle it.
At Roseguppy's sugestion, she padded over to the side of the lake. There was no wind and so it was easy to see if there were any fish. She made sure that her shadow didn't fall over the lake. The fish would swim away if they saw it. She saw a silvery fish and scooped it out of the water. She tried to kill it but it was too quick and flopped back into the lake before she had a chance.

Humor sparkled in her eyes when Cloverpaw answered her leader's question. It was perfectly alright to fall into the lake on your first try, yet it was still a good laugh.
"Try hooking the fish out of the water, you'll have a better grip on it's slippery body after being pulled out of the water. Like this,"
Getting to her paws, she got up from where she was sitting and padded over to the edge of the lake, making sure her shadow also didn't fall across the water. It was always best to fish at early morning, midday, or when the sun was sitting. Today, they were out at midday. Studying the water with her brown-gold eyes, her paw jabbed quickly into the water, her claw snagging a fish in the gill. As she hurled it out, she dropped it sharply onto a rock where it flapped, and died.
"Quick and easy. And not as messy as some warriors do it."
She snickered. [/blockquote]

Avoiding the eyes of Darkstar and Roseguppy, Cloverpaw again looked out over the glassy water of the lake. There were several fish near the edge that were still unaware of the predators above them. Taking her mentor's advice into account, Cloverpaw unsheathed her claw and swiped at a silvery fish. She sent it sailing at the same rock Roseguppy's fish hit. Her fish met the same end. She purred with satisfaction and blinked in surprise. "I did it!" she meowed.

A purr rolled up from her chest when her apprentice had caught her first fish. She was most definitely proud of her.
"Congratulations!"
She said, giving her apprentice a wuick lick on the head. In no-time she would become a great fisher. She smiled again, her tail curling over her back at her apprentice's great achievement today.
"Soon, we'll have a greta fisher on our paws, don't you think Darkstar?"
She said, turning to the leader.
[ack. horrible.] [/blockquote]

Darkstar sighed and lay down, stretching each limb (left foreleg, righ leg, right foreleg). The grass was soft, the air was sweet, and the sun was warm, but her life was still, well boring.
Darkstar had a theory that cats were happier the more they were challenged- they were quite ornery creatures, weren't they? Cats strove to overcome obstacles, to reach some peaceful nothingland, and then, once the task was fulfilled, became restless and unhappy. They were sick, miserable creatures, some manner of freaks that Starclan or some other being had designed out of cruel whim.
Or maybe that was just her.
Wait. She was being adressed. She blinked. Oh. Cloverpaw had caught a fish. "Yes, good job, Cloverpaw," she said. She blinked rapidly, trying to rise from her momentary stupor. "But I'm afraid two fish will NOT feed the 12 members of our clan. If you don't mind terribly, catch some more."
