The ripples in the water disorted the image of the tiny colorful pebbles below and her own reflection. Tiny minnows swam by every so often. To Dovepaw, it was fun to watch the tiny fish dart around, even if they weren't big enough to be prey.
Her blue-gray tail wrapped around her, the apprentice chased a little fish around with her forepaw. It swam in zigzags, before slipping away into the dephs of the water. Dovepaw sighed slightly, and looked about, wondering where Runningpaw was. Probably devising another plan to switch identities. It /is/ always fun to act like her. Dovepaw backed away from the pond and sat near the bank, giving her front forepaws a few licks each. But what to do in the meantime...

While the young she-cat was chasing the minnows around, Erminejaw slipped quietly from the tall cat-tails bordering the creek. In his mind he debated whether to leap upon Dovepaw or waltze in calmly. It was always fun to see the expression on an apprentice's face when he sprung on them like they were a vole. He chuckled softly at the memories, but not only joyful ones filled his mind. The knowledge that both of his other apprentices had died pressed upon him like a giant paw.
So, he clammered down the bank, pebbles scattering down the ledge as his paws pressed down for a foot hold, though it was difficult to find one with the ever moving stones underfoot. As soon as he reached the bottom, near the creek, he let out a mew in greeting to his apprentice.
He could see silvery fish gliding gracefully through the crystal clear water, gills gaping and fins thrashing about as they darted here and there, hiding from the shadows cast upon the sandy creek bed. He could resist letting out another chuckle of laughter.
" So Dovepaw, are you ready to begin your training?" He glanced curiously at his new apprentice.
