In my field of paper flowers
And candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours
And watch my purple sky fly over me
The moon had long since risen over the horizon, the half-filled sphere illuminating the rolling fields below it. Fireflies flashed in various places, their bright yellow lights littering the expanse. Dew had begun to fall, causing the tips of the soft, tall grass to glitter in the moonlight. A gentle breeze was soundlessly gliding through, whispering as it got caught in between the long stalks of grass. The fields were bathed in moonlight; they looked almost white. Night-time birds danced through the sky, tiny fragments of shadow falling down below them. It was a truly beautiful scene, no busy day goers were around to disturb it. All was peaceful, serene, silent, and amazing.
In one of the more worn areas, a small figure rested, curled up into a ball as white as the moonlight. If you looked close enough, you could see the slow, hardly noticeable rise and fall of her chest. Her eyes were closed and she looked untroubled and bliss. Oh, the lies. The tip of her tail twitched slightly as she roamed the magical lands of her dream world, where butterflies and nothing but kind souls were located. Oh, if only. Melodywarp was walking down a shady path, located in a night with no moon or stars. That seemed like an omen to her, an omen from StarClan. She could hardly see; thankfully, she was a cat, and cats could see in the dark. She spotted a shadow ahead and narrowed her eyes, trying to figure out what it was. It looked like a cat, but didn't smell like one. It smelled sort of like a badger, but the scent was more soft and not as rancid. She cautiously stepped toward it, her muscles tensing. The figure turned violently, leaping in a rage of snarls, teeth, and claws.
Melodywarp's eyes shot open and she muffled a scream, her breath coming in ragged pants. Her body was quivering and moist with sweat. She could tell fear-scent was rolling off of her in waves, but she soothed her mind. She knew that it was only a nightmare. She rarely slept anymore because of them. They haunted her every single night, and she barely got enough sleep to continue on. Alas, she had learned to deal with it. No one knew nor noticed her lack of sleep for she kept it hidden, carrying on even when it was nearly impossible. Oh, what a troubled mind. She sat upright slowly, her body still shaking slightly. With one last look around her, she stood, her knees wobbling at first. She drew in a steadying breath and stepped forward, her senses fully alert for any prey. She heard the quiet scuffling of a mouse, turning slowly to see the small brown creature snuffling a few fox-lengths away. It held a large seed between its tiny paws. She turned carefully, lowering down into the traditional crouch. She wriggled before setting off, successfully wrapping her paws around the tiny body. Its tiny squeal was abruptly cut off as she leaned in and clamped down on its neck, her brilliant amber eyes gleaming with triumph. Success.
Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming
Cannot cease for the fear of silent nights
Oh, how I long for the deep sleep dreaming
The goddess of imaginary light
